I have never been in the best shape even though I have played sports before, but none of those really made a change when it came to my body. I never understood why I couldn’t manage to look like any of the other girls if we basically did the same workouts. Especially because some those girls that were able to stuff their faces with a bunch of junk food and not gain a single Lb. and here it seemed I would gain 5 Lbs just by sniffing a pizza!

Then there was me eating less or nothing at all and when I did eat I’d run and shove a finger down my throat. After seeing no results I’d just go back to being depressed and eating whatever I wanted whenever I wanted no matter the time.

After High school, all my exercising ended. I gained the famous “freshman 15,” probably even more. Then, about a year later I decided to join the gym, but I also decided to get a personal trainer. After a couple of months, I lost my motivation and stopped showing up. Time went by and I only saw myself getting bigger. I would tell myself “you’re not too fat you can still see your toes, go treat yourself with some tacos!”

It wasn’t until last year when I went to the Dr. for an annual checkup did I realize my weight. When I was with the Dr. she looked at me dead in the eye and said to me “22 and you’re already weighing 187 lbs” I was shocked, I was 13lbs from being 200 it scared me. I decided to change my eating ways again. Slowly I tried to eat healthier, but I just couldn’t do it. It was hard because I was doing it all by myself, no one in my family wanted to join me. Then there I was once again going back to making unhealthy choices. After many failed attempts I resorted to diet pills and home remedies. Although I did manage to lose some weight, it was causing me more harm than I realized. In less than a week I had lost about 7lbs and my skin was turning yellow. I puked constantly and had other side effects.

Then one day as I was scrolling down Facebook I saw an AD for a workout challenge. It was called the “New You Challenge” and the next thing I know I’m walking through the doors of CrossFit Brownsville. I met with coach Isabel and she explained what the NYC would consist of. As she was explaining to me, I was distracted by the class that was running at the moment, almost made me regret my decision. I thought what they were doing was insane and I thought I would never be able to do it.

It’s now been 3 months since I started CrossFit & I couldn’t be any more pleased with the progress I have made so far. Not to mention the one I will continue to make because this is just the beginning and I will not quit this time. I went from being a person who would use every possible excuse in the book to keep me from exercising to being someone that gets bummed out whenever I can’t make it to the gym!

All I can say now is thank you to all the coaches at CF Brownsville I am beyond blessed to have met each and every one of you and every other member that has encouraged me. They all have been such a great inspiration and have become people I look up to.
